Many teams tell us they invest significant time, money, and effort into creating inspiring visions. Yet, shortly after creation, these visions fade. They may still be displayed on office walls or desktops, but they vanish from the team's conversations and actions. In some cases, the vision can also become a burden, stressing out the team rather than a source of energy and motivation. As a result, team members lack direction and a sense of belonging.
One of the reasons why a team’s vision vanishes soon after its creation is that it is often formed in a space where team members are having hidden fears, concerns, expectations, and sometimes incomplete relationships among themselves. Without freeing themselves from these constraints, team members will not be able to fully embrace and commit to the team's vision. These internal barriers can hinder collaboration, trust, and open communication, which are essential for a shared vision to thrive.
